Ford wont use extreme GT version for WEC hypercar Multimatic autosport.com

Ford will now not use its GT as the idea for an access into the World Endurance Championship's hypercar class, according to Multimatic motorsport boss Larry Holt.

The GT made its WEC debut in2019 as part of a four-yr deal among Ford Performance and Multimatic to run the factory-sponsored programme.

That deal expired after remaining month's Le Mans 24 Hours, even though Multimatic - which advanced and builds the street and race GT - is seeking to continue with the auto in a privateer potential.

On the primary day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the 2 companies unveiled a GT MkII music-only version but dominated out the usage of it as the foundation for a deliberate access into the hypercar class.

Holt advised Autosport: "No, the brand new vehicle has now not been finished with [the hypercar class] in mind at all.

"Ford did their deal for four years, they've carried out what they stated they could do.

"Are they looking at what they want to do subsequent? Yeah, they may be.

"The GT will be the closest component to a GTE-plus car, however it is no longer the way [the ACO] have long gone.

"They've long gone to hypercar regulations. That's not a hypercar.

Although Holt ruled out the usage of the GT, he stated that Ford became still actively seeking to be a part of Aston Martin and Toyota in 2020/21 for the hole season of the hypercar policies.

"There's nothing inside the MKII [that points to a hypercar future], however Ford are looking at everything.

"They're in a method now where they're investigating."

But Holt turned into confident that if Ford did input the class it'd go back to Multimatic with whom it won the GTE Pro magnificence of Le Mans in2019, saying "we are joined at the hip".

With over 700bhp and extra downforce, Holt said the monitor of the MkII GT changed into as an alternative the "remaining expression" of the GT that have been held lower back because of the limitations of Balance of Performance.

"The GT is lots less compromised than most supercars, however it's far nevertheless fairly compromised," he told Autosport.

"Then we move racing with it and a punter could say it's the last version.

"But it's no longer, due to the fact you've got BoP. It isn't the ultimate way of displaying the overall performance of the GT, it's the opposite.

"You're racing a [Chevrolet] Corvette, [Aston Martin] Vantage, the [Ferrari] 488 and the [BMW] M8.

"You've got essentially donkey and giraffe racing."
