A New York man filed a $1 billion lawsuit against Apple, claiming the tech massive’s facial-reputation software wrongly blamed him for stealing from Apple shops.

Ousmane Bah, 18, claims a person used a stolen ID to skip themselves off as him once they had been busted stealing $1,200 worth of merchandise from an Apple store in Boston on May 31,2019, consistent with papers filed in Manhattan federal court.

The ID indexed his name, address and other non-public facts — but did no longer consist of a photo. Bah believes Apple took the perp at his phrase, after which programmed its security structures to recognize the person’s face as Bah’s.
